To Veil Or Not To Veil?

Whether you are a traditional or a modern bride, when it comes to deciding on whether or not to wear a veil the answer should always be YES. Not only does it complete the bridal look, a veil is the best accessory on your wedding day. Interestingly, many of my clients say, the moment they put their veil on was the moment they truly felt like a bride.

On the day of your wedding, one of the special moments when a bride is getting ready is when her dress is being put on and the veil is draped over her shoulders by someone she loves.  The memory of having that captured on camera is something you’ll thank your photographer forever.

We as photographers always look forward to our time alone with the bride, right before the ceremony begins, where we capture her in that moment of deep reflection and calm.  The results are always extraordinary whether it’s the tranquility captured in the photos by a window with the sunlight peeking through a bride’s veil, or the drama of a cathedral veil draped over a luxurious staircase.  These and countless other moments are greatly influenced by wearing a veil or headpiece. Veils have the ability to construct beautiful textures simply by positioning them creatively in the frame.  Veils frame the face and help flatter a woman’s body regar

Then comes the moment when a bride is walking down the aisle and the veil is draped beautifully behind her. The magic a veil adds to the ceremony is like no other element or accessory there. If you are wearing a blusher, the moment your father or groom flips it over your head not only makes for a beautiful image, but the smile captured right when it comes off is authentic and true.

Did you know in Jewish traditions, before the wedding ceremony and while signing the marriage license the groom HAS to lift up the veil to stick to a tradition of “checking to make sure it’s the correct bride!”  Story says that Jacob was tricked into marrying Leah because her face was completely covered by her veil. He did not realize it until the next morning when he woke up next to the wrong sister.  Imagine that!!!

What is more beautiful than a photo with your new husband and your long and beautiful veil flowing gently through the wind? The artistry needed to create the perfect flow of a veil can only be done with the right eye and technique. This style of photo is timeless. There is no other word to describe it.

In 20 years, you’ll look back and still have a photo you love and cherish. A veil really is the major accessory of a wedding day. The stories that can be told with a simple texture is remarkable. Your veil will create the impact you are looking for. It is the WOW factor.  Now go get one!!
