Battling The ‘Morning After” Bachelor Party Fatigue

By Adem Terzi

Modern culture dictates there’s no better way to say goodbye to Bachelorhood then by commemorating it with one last night (sometimes even a weekend) of good food, good music, lots of drinks and all your buddies.  Whether you stay local or book a trip for a guy’s weekend these known all-nighters are sure to be raucous and fun, and oh so tiring!

Before we get started on how to repair the havoc your bachelor party can cause, we first want to discuss the newest trends in male grooming so no matter where your Bachelor Party leads you, you know you’ll be looking your best and totally in style!  As we relax into 2016, we are finding it’s the year of new hair trends and styles.  Unlike the traditional, more refined looks of yesterday, 2016 is calling for a more edgy presence, making a much stronger statement.  We’re currently seeing many variations of a style we created first at Adem Terzi Barber’s Club several year’s ago where the sides of the hair are cut shorter and the top is left longer to allow more options to shape your hair to the style of your choosing.  Of course, over the last couple of years our signature  “Turkish Cut” has gained in popularity and is regularly featured at the top of the trend lists.  Regardless of the cut or style you choose, it is important to pick a look that compliments your face, body, lifestyle, and personal fashion sense.  You can never go wrong when all of these are working together.

Aroos Joon sat down with famed Turkish men’s grooming expert, Adem Terzi to bring the men of our Man Cave some professional advice and lessons on how to perk up that complexion and fluff up that hair after a wild and crazy Bachelor party.  Check out Adem’s awesome tips:

AROOS JOON: Many of our male user’s wonder if there’s any benefit to moisturizing their face since they tend to have facial hair. If so, what kind of creams do you recommend?

ADEM: Of course a man’s face can benefit from using a good face cream, but the key is selecting the right one.  As a general rule, men choosing to use facial creams should select a cream that suits your skins moisture level and PH.

AROOS JOON:  After a late night, my skin feels really dry and the idea of shaving makes me cringe.  Is there an art to shaving the morning after a long night out?

ADEM:  Your skin is the largest organ on your body and is sensitive to its environment and what we do to it on a good day. The morning after a long night, it needs a little extra love and care. When shaving the ‘morning after,’ it’s very important to not over do it.  Go for a slight trim over a close shave, or maybe even forego the shave all together for the day to give your skin a little rest. The face already looks tired and a close shave will only make you look more fatigued.

AROOS JOON: We’ve heard the temperature of the water you use to wash your face matters.  Is that true and if so, what is the ideal water temperature our Man Cave readers should use?

ADEM:  When you wash your skin after a rough night you should always wash using cold water.  It will help the blood flow in your face and allow you to look more refreshed and awake.

AROOS JOON: Is the same true about water temperature affecting the look of your hair?  Should we also wash our hair using cold water?  That doesn’t sound very fun!

ADEM:  No need to freeze in the shower!  Most men like to relax under a showerhead and cold water wouldn’t be very relaxing!  The fact is, when you wash your hair with super hot water you run the risk of damaging your pigment.  Always try to aim for showering in warm water.  Now it is true, using cooler water can add a nice shine to your hair, but only the brave need try that!  I’ll stick to warm water myself.

AROOS JOON: It seems like it takes my face a while to lose the puffiness and that “I just woke up” look in the mornings.  Is there anything we can so to speed up the process?  Maybe a little steam?  We’re worried a Bachelor party the night before a wedding could leave faces too swollen for the cameras!

ADEM:  Actually steaming the face is the exact opposite of what you should do. In this situation, cold water, cold water, cold water is your best friend.  When you use cold water on your face, it helps the blood circulate more quickly and gives you a refreshed look.

AROOS JOON: What if we want to cheat a little?  Our fiancés always look so nice after a late night just by adding a touch of make-up.  Could the same help a man’s face?

ADEM:  No, applying make-up can actually starve your face causing it to become more damaged.  Avoid applying make-up the morning after a late night.  I always prefer more natural solutions.

AROOS JOON: We know sometimes looks can be deceiving.  The morning after a late night when we need to look our best, is there a certain color we should choose to wear that can make us look less tired?

ADEM:  Any lighter colors should be preferred.

AROOS JOON: What style of hair will make a man look more fresh and awake?  Do you usually select the style for your clients or do they come in asking for certain looks?

ADEM:  Most of our clients prefer to leave the hair styling to us.  We like our signature Turkish cut, of course!  At Adem Terzi Barber Club, we created this look several years ago and it seems to make the trends lists every year.  The allure of this style is that it is sporty as well as classic and naturally looks fresh.

AROOS JOON: That’s great to know!  Can you give us a few examples of some well-known clients you currently style?

ADEM:  We style many wonderful notables in Turkey.  Some of the actor clients we’ve been fortunate to style over the years include Turkish stars Kivanc Tatlitug, Engin Akyurek, and Zafer Ergin.  We’ve styled Kivanc Tatlitug’s hair for the majority of his TV shows.  We styled Engin Akyurek in his TV series “Black Money Love” as well as Zafer Ergin’s character Riza in the TV Series “Back Streets.”

AROOS JOON: What about a pre-emptive strike?  Is there anything we can do the night before heading out on the town to avoid looking tired the next day?

ADEM:  We recommend staying hydrated and drinking herbal teas.

AROOS JOON: In preparation for this amazing Bachelor party (and the wedding day), are there any hair treatments, colors or processes you might recommend the groom consider? If so, how much time should he allow for the treatment’s?

ADEM:  We don’t recommend using any products that are ‘quick fixes.’  We recommend the bachelors use natural products with fewer chemicals over an extended period of time, perhaps 2-3 months.  This attention will keep the hair and skin healthy.  Chemical-based products can do a lot of damage to the hair.

AROOS JOON: One last question.  If you could tell us one thing a man should never do to his hair, what would it be?

ADEM:  Gentlemen, just like we do not go to bed without washing our faces and teeth, you should never go to sleep with styling products still on your hair.  You must wash it all out before climbing into bed.  Leaving any sort of styling product in your hair for too long a period of time can damage the hair strand.  And always, if possible, find a product that’s right for you.

AROOS JOON: Thank you Adem.  Any parting message you want to leave the men of our Man Cave with?

ADEM:  As a man we have to understand the importance of our hair.  A man’s hair is equivalent to a woman’s make up.  We don’t leave home without it, and we wear it in a way to enhance our good looks.  Congratulations on your engagement.  I hope your enjoy your late night out!
